January is National Weight Loss Awareness Month

Weight loss is a hot topic throughout the year, but is especially present after the new year starts and resolutions to eat better, exercise more and maintain a healthier lifestyle abound.

Do-or-do-not-there-is-no-try

Give up trying this year! In the spirit of the latest Star Wars movie release, let’s take some advice from Yoda.  “Do.  Or do not.  There is no try.”

Here are some tips to maintain your resolutions and achieve your health goals this year, read more online: http://greatist.com/fitness/strategies-stick-to-your-fitness-resolutions

  1. Write it and Measure it: Resolutions should be both specific and measurable.
  2. Make Resolutions Manageable: A resolution shouldn’t be a fantasy.
  3. Break up the Goal: Shorter timelines and smaller increments are less overwhelming.
  4. Treat Yo’Self! Give yourself healthy rewards when you achieve small goals.
  5. Question Your Motives: Superficial goals can lose their appeal.
  6. Ask for Help: Don’t let inexperience stand in the way of your goal.  Find an experienced mentor.
  7. Keep a Schedule: Pick a time of day when you have energy to work on change.
  8. Keep it Interesting: Use your resolution as an excuse to try something new.  Instead of a cigarette break, take a walk around the block.
  9. Hold Yourself Accountable: Paying for a membership or scheduling time with a buddy will keep you more accountable.
  10. Choose the Right Tech: Explore fitness, weight, food and other trackers to determine which can help you most to achieve your goals.
  11. Think Outside the Box: The path to your goals isn’t a straight line and what works for someone else might not work for you.  Keep exploring different methods that resonate with you.
  12. Reevaluate Resolutions Often: After you’ve committed to a change you may find that it doesn’t fit for you in reality.  Reevaluate your methods and pick a different path.
  13. Buy Some Cool Gear: Purchase new fitness gear, shoes, or whatever will get you excited about your run.
  14. Don’t Be Afraid to Scale Back: You don’t need to be in pain to achieve your goal.  Take baby steps.
  15. Be Forgiving: Slip-ups are expected.  Don’t let a mistake justify giving up.
